Very thankful to finally have a legit Mexican restaurant in town! Food is excellent, big portions, and phenomenal salsas and sauces ("hot" means HOT here, not "Midwestern Scandinavian" hot). If your usual "Mexican" joint is on Washington Ave, you owe it to yourself to come down here and find out what ACTUAL Mexican food tastes like!
The rice and taco plate is so good. And on Wednesdays it's only 7.99. 3 tacos and rice. Also the fresh salsa is amazing. The spicy guac salsa is delicious. I highly recommend.

UPDATE: July 1st, still the best Mexican in town. Freshly made, packed with flavor and not the standard boring food from the rest of restaurants in town. It's a must try. AUG 12th, love the taco specials on Tuesdays and Fridays, great idea! Got to try this real deal Mexican restaurant. UPDATE: The enchiladas were flavorable and juicy. The tacos are always spot on, not your Taco Bell of Taco John tacos. Your missing out if you haven't tried the food.
The 3 Tacos de Asada tasted really good, the rice was great tasting too with a Guava drink @ 17.00. Chatted quickly with a couple other customers, one has a Carne Asada Fries which was huge and another a big burrito of some kind. Both said it was good food too.
Birria tacos all day everyday here. I live in south Florida and tacos there are very good so I was not sure what to expect. Came into el gordito for lunch and these tacos were incredible. Authentic. Best tacos in North Dakota. Fair prices and friendly staff. Will be telling my family and friends about this place immediately.
Excellent place to eat. They have the most options for authentic meats. You will not find a better taco in Grand Forks for a better price. The serving portions is crazy. They have a lot of options for sauces and you can't beat their daily specials.
This locally owned place has the best, most authentic Mexican food in town! They make everything fresh from scratch and it is so full of flavor. I love getting my tamale fix here and have fallen in love with the popusas, so good! Burritos are HUGE so you will definitely have leftovers. Tacos are also amazing, they do Birria tacos on occasion but they sell out FAST!!
This food was awesome! Huge portions, such great taste and authenticity, every choice of food you want, and they daily specials. It's now going to become a ritual to go here.
